There on Fifth opened last week, bringing a menu of “elevated pub food” and a focus on craft cocktails to Midtown.

The eatery, located at 22 5th St. NW near Tech Square, offers a “more elevated” counterpart to its sister restaurant There Brookhaven, which is more of “a neighborhood pub” according to general manager Andrew Leclair.

The restaurant, which was set to open last year before running into some permitting issues, has an “approachable” vibe “with neighborhood friendly” prices, according to Leclair, who previously worked as a sommelier at Atlanta concepts Local Three and War Horse.

The menu features “worldly-inspired cuisine” often pairing French techniques with Southern ingredients, said executive chef Brad Smallwood.

Look for Chicken Confit Cassoulet made with Springer Farms chicken and a Baeg-In Chicken Sandwich topped with housemade kimchi, as well as pub staples including burgers, fries and wings.

Smallwood, who previously worked in the kitchen at Atlanta restaurants including Tiny Lou’s, Atlas, Wrecking Bar and the now-shuttered the Mercury, said he wants “a happy environment” in his kitchen, encouraging his cooks to experiment and to play around with the dishes they grew up eating.

He said he wanted a small menu for the restaurant’s opening, with plans to add more dishes in the future.

On the beverage side, Leclair said the focus is on craft cocktails “keeping everything on the refreshing side,” including French 75, Paloma and Bonfire on the Beach, made with whisky, lemon, ginger and honey. The beverage also features several beers and wines by the glass.

The restaurant is currently following COVID-19 social distancing guidelines for its dine-in and patio service. When open at full capacity, There will seat about 65 people inside and 40-50 on its wraparound patio, with plans to cover a good portion of the outdoor space and feature a projection screen and flatscreens to show sports.

There is currently offering 10% off the total bill for carry-out and 25% off bottles of wine to go.

There on Fifth is open from 3-10 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, with plans to expand hours to include weekday lunch, Sunday brunch and dinner and Monday service.
