Popular seafood restaurant Fishmonger has closed its west Midtown location as it prepares to move across the street into the Stella at Star Metals building this spring.

The Michelin-rated eatery from Skip Engelbrecht and partners Nhan Le and Bradford Forsblom opened in the former La Fonda Latina space at 1025 Howell Mill Road in June 2023 while waiting for the Stella building of the Star Metals District mixed-use development to be built.

Engelbrecht said they decided to close the west Midtown outpost now to focus on moving into the Stella building and opening Fishmonger’s first Nashville location.

Fishmonger’s Stella eatery will be around 2,000 square feet, Engelbrecht said. It will have a more “polished look” than the Poncey-Highland and Kirkwood outposts with an industrial, modern feel featuring neon, art and concrete, he said.

The menu will include core offerings from other Fishmonger locations and specials unique to the Stella restaurant.

In the meantime, Engelbrecht said the Poncey-Highland eatery will extend its hours and add more seating to account for the temporary closure, and the Kirkwood location will operate sporadically.

A representative from the Allen Morris Company, the real estate firm behind the Star Metals District, said in a statement that Stella is set to be finished in late spring or early summer. The building will be the tallest on Atlanta’s Westside with 327 residences and 25,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, including Fishmonger and an undisclosed Miami-based restaurant concept.

The Star Metals District also includes the Sentral at Star Metals residential building and the Star Metals Offices, which features 40,000 square feet of retail, restaurants and showrooms. Future phases of the development will include around 800 more residential units, 100,000 square feet of retail and a boutique hotel.

The Star Metals District is currently home to sushi restaurant Hayakawa, Prevail Coffee, Sweetgreen, Savi Provisions, Flight Club, Torchy’s Tacos and cocktail bar Lucky Star. Eden, a French-inspired Mediterranean restaurant from the Delbar team, will open in the coming months.
