As a beer lover, and a music lover, Record Store Day is one of my favorite annual events.
And among iconic American craft breweries, Dogfish Head has always led the way with its music collaboration beers.
For Record Store Day 2019, on Saturday, the brewery is celebrating by renewing its partnership with the Grateful Dead to rerelease its American Beauty pale ale.
It’s also collaborating with the band to create a limited-edition, 10-track Grateful Dead album titled “Sage and Spirit,” which is dropping on Saturday, too.
What’s more Dogfish Head is now offering the Miles Davis-inspired Wood-Aged Bitches Brew imperial stout as a year-round brand, and bringing back Dragons & YumYums, its crazy cool tropical pale ale collaboration with the Flaming Lips.
In honor of all that, and looking forward to checking out “Sage & Spirit” and other Record Store Day releases at Decatur CD on Saturday, American Beauty is this week’s Beer Pick.

Profile
Renewing its collaboration with the Grateful Dead, Dogfish Head has rereleased its American Beauty Pale Ale. Like the 2013 original, its brewed with granola (yes, granola) and “succulent wildflower honey and all-American hops.”
At 6.5 percent alcohol, with a pale gold color and frothy head, it displays a malty, cereal grain essence in the aroma and flavor, along with fruity honey notes, and a lingering bittersweet finish.
Pair with
Dogfish Head recommends pairing American Beauty with Thai food, jambalaya or frites. I think it would be fun to sip it with a granola bar or some oatmeal cookies.
