Police have opened a homicide investigation after a woman’s body was discovered in a driveway in southwest Atlanta on Friday morning.
The woman was found with an apparent gunshot wound outside a home in the 800 block of Cascade Road, an Atlanta police spokesman confirmed. The death was first reported by a father walking his daughter to school, according to Channel 2 Action News.
The man, who did not share his name, told the news station he thought the woman was passed out at first and that he tried to wake her.
“Once I got up to her, I realized she had a hole in the back of her head,” the man said.
The home is not far from Tuskegee Airmen Global Academy, an elementary school.
Police said the victim, who was identified as 31-year-old Latreicia Collins of Atlanta by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office, did not have a connection to the neighborhood. The home’s owner told Channel 2 they did not know how Collins ended up in their driveway. They also said they did not hear gunshots.
The man who discovered the body expressed surprise at the woman’s appearance, pointing out that she was nicely dressed.
“She looked like somebody’s daughter or somebody’s mama,” he said. “It bothers me, it messes with me real bad. ... It’s just senseless.”
