Storms that were predicted to make their way to metro Atlanta this afternoon have stayed in west Georgia and aren’t expected to move much closer, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.
That is good news for drivers stuck in traffic around the Perimeter and Downtown Connector. At least the weather shouldn’t make things worse.
Ga. 400 near Northridge Road is jammed due to a wreck that has blocked two lanes, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
A vehicle fire on the Connector near Langford Parkway has caused delays in two lanes, the Traffic Center reported.
The Traffic Center is reporting heavy delays on Ga. 316 West through Gwinnett County due to construction at Hi Hope Road that has one lane blocked. Take Sugarloaf Parkway as an alternate.
MARTA riders on the Gold and Red lines are also experiencing about 15-minute delays due to a previous “emergency & track way issue,” the agency said in a tweet.
The chance of rain has gone down for tonight, but there’s still a small chance of isolated storms, which could add to expected traffic delays as the Braves return home to face the New York Mets at 7:35 p.m. at SunTrust Park.
A cold front pushing east across the state kept temperatures in the high 70s and low 80s, making things feel a little more like spring than summer. The high peaked at 81 degrees, Monahan said. Other areas of North Georgia stayed in the upper 70s.

On Wednesday, heavier rain will ramp up again, Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said. There is a 60 percent chance of stronger showers and storms throughout the day. Showers should continue through the week, with rain chances at 40 percent.
Temps should heat up to 90 degrees by Friday, according to the latest forecast.
