[9:10 p.m.]:

River Green Parkway is shut down by Duluth police due to flooding, the department said in a Facebook post. It’s unclear when the portion of the road will reopen.

[6:28 p.m.]: Flooding has been reported on Old Paper Mill Drive near Paper Mill Road in Cobb County, according to the county's government on Twitter.

[UPDATE, 5:40 p.m.]: A flash flood warning has been issued for Fulton and Gwinnett counties until 11:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. A flood watch was also issued for Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Murray, Walker and Whitfield counties until 7 a.m. Sunday.

[ORIGINAL STORY]: A messy morning in Atlanta has led to a miserable afternoon on the roads due to constant rain across North Georgia.

Wrecks litter many interstates during Thursday’s evening commute, and Channel 2 Action News also reported that New Peachtree Road is blocked at American Industrial Way in DeKalb County due to ponding. It’s unclear when that road will reopen.

Elsewhere, multiple left lanes of I-285 West were blocked between Riverdale Road and I-85 after a Clayton County crash, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. All lanes have since reopened, but delays remain.

Several left lanes of I-85 South are also blocked before Clairmont Road due to a DeKalb crash, according to the Traffic Center.

This all comes after a tractor-trailer overturned in a QuikTrip gas station parking lot, blocking all westbound lanes of Jimmy Carter Boulevard at Brookhollow Parkway this morning.

While the weather has not been severe, the rain hasn’t let up much across the day, Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said. The rainfall is expected to continue into the evening.

“As you make your plans for the rest of your evening, the rain stays with us,” Nitz said, adding that temperatures will also rise into the mid-50s by midnight.

That temperature increase is due to winds blowing in warmer air, which does not bode well for Friday’s weather, Nitz said. The rain chance increases to 90% Friday, and the warmer temperatures could fuel thunderstorms.

The on-and-off showers will continue to linger into the weekend, with the far northwestern counties getting between 2 and 4 inches of rainfall by Saturday. Metro Atlanta, however, will probably only see half that much.
