The heaviest wave of storms has come and gone for most of metro Atlanta.

There was a brief tornado warning in far northwest Georgia and lots of heavy rain, but no major damage was reported as a result of the weather.

However, a few downed trees in addition to light rain means the evening commute is still a wet mess, the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center reported.

Roswell police previously closed two Ga. 92 eastbound lanes near Crabapple Road because of a power pole fire, the Traffic Center reported. All lanes have reopened, but delays still linger.

It’s 5 p.m., and the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center map looks pretty much the same as 2 p.m. when the storms were at their worst. This means interstates are still backed up.

A tree is also reported down on I-285 South at East Ponce de Leon Avenue, which is blocking a right lane, the Traffic Center reported.

There aren’t many significant wrecks on the Downtown Connector or the Northern Perimeter, but both are moving slowly, the Traffic Center reported.

Friday has a 40 percent chance of rain, but those showers will “not be intense like today,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said.

“The cold front itself doesn’t actually come through here until Friday, when we could have a few isolated showers behind that system,” Minton said.

North Georgia weather clears up for the weekend, according to Channel 2, when it should be much cooler with lows dipping into the 40s.
