For those of you keeping score at home, the expected rainfall Sunday and Monday is taking on a historical perspective.
The year 2018 is approximately 2 inches from becoming the year with the most rainfall in Atlanta, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Friday’s rain brought the yearly total to about 69 inches, according to Channel 2. Only in 1948 did the city get more rainfall (about 71 inches).
2018 is now the 2nd WETTEST on record. With additional rainfall expected Sunday and New Year's Eve, I suspect we'll be close to the record! pic.twitter.com/xOoE9xCPf2

The rainfall record may not come easy, although there is a 60 percent chance of rain Sunday and 40 percent Monday,
The total through Sunday will be about a half-inch, according to Channel 2 meteorologist Eboni Deon.

After a mostly sunny Saturday, Sunday began with some showers and overcast skies.
By evening, it is expected to be mostly dry and in the 50s, Deon said.
New Year’s Eve should feel like spring, with rainy conditions and a forecast high of 70.
So if you’re headed to the Peach Drop or any other outdoor New Year’s Eve activity, bring some rain gear, Deon warned.
“There will be rain at midnight (New Year’s Eve) for much of North Georgia, including Atlanta,” Deon said.

As for traffic, drivers should be cautious with holiday travelers hitting the road.
Volume on the roads was light Sunday morning, though officials urged drivers to be cautious on the slick streets.
Over the Christmas holiday travel period, Georgia officers responded to 26 traffic deaths, 11 more this year than last, AJC.com reported.
This was for the period between 6 p.m. Dec. 21 and 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, the day after Christmas.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety tracked the crashes, seven of which were in metro Atlanta.
