No Fourth of July is complete without The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race, and there’s pretty much no chance participants could get wet this year.

“Showers and thunderstorms — nothing like that to worry about (Wednesday) morning,” Channel 2 Action News Chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.

Georgia is in the middle of a month-long pattern of daily scattered showers and thunderstorms, and that’s expected to continue Wednesday afternoon, when there is a 30 percent chance of rain.

The morning should start in the low 70s and build to the upper 80s by lunchtime, topping at a predicted high of 90 degrees, Burns said. So it’ll get toasty during the afternoon, but that’s when the bulk of the storms should come and mellow the heat out a bit.

“As we head through your July 4 afternoon, some isolated showers and storms (start) developing,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

What's more likely to affect racers and spectators is the 90 percent morning humidity and the many road closures for the race, which could make downtown traffic tough to navigate. For more detail on what roads will be closed and when, click here.

For those who decide public transportation is the better route, MARTA will provide extra trains, shuttle buses and staff on July 4. The gold line is the best way to reach the race start location near Lenox Station.

And Uber is offering a 50 percent discount to customers who use the ride-sharing service to and from MARTA stations, the transit agency said in a tweet.
