It may be a little early this year, but the season’s first frost was expected this morning in metro Atlanta along with widespread temperatures in the 30s. The freezing temperatures are predicted to come again on Saturday morning.

Today’s frost advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. for all of north Georgia, north of a line from LaGrange to Forsyth to Warrenton.

Channel 2 meteorologist David Chandley predicted even colder temperatures arriving this weekend.

Afternoon temperatures will be up to the mid-60s today, but might only reach the mid-50s Friday before dropping into the mid-30s early Saturday.

Weekend highs will be around 60 Saturday and 68 Sunday, Chandley said.

And in case you’re wondering, the average date for Atlanta’s first official freezing temperature is Nov. 7, although the city has recorded 32 degrees as early as September 24, in 1928. The latest first freeze of the season was on Dec. 6, 1978.
