Severe storms threaten to keep you indoors Tuesday night into Wednesday.

A cold front expected to move through North Georgia later could produce isolated tornadoes, 60-mph winds and quarter-sized hail, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

It’s “not a widespread severe weather event but a couple of strong storms are possible,” Monahan said.

A 20 percent rain chance Tuesday increases to 70 percent Wednesday.

“(We) can’t rule out that isolated spin-up tornado briefly,” Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said. “We’ll keep a close eye on it.”

The severe weather could arrive between midnight and 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The Southside, however, should be in the clear.

“The best chance of severe weather will stay well to the northwest,” Monahan said.

In the meantime, Tuesday is expected to be warmer than normal and pollen is down.

Though still in the high range, Atlanta's count dropped from 1,217 particles per cubic meter of air Monday to 993 Tuesday, according to Atlanta Allergy and Asthma. Neither of the totals came close to last year's season high of 3,559 or the 2016 season high of 4,107.

Currently, Atlanta’s temperature is 74 degrees. The city reached a high of 79, which is also the average high for this time of year.

But expect “a whole different ballgame in terms of temperatures tomorrow,” Monahan said.

Cooler air should move in behind Tuesday night’s cold front, which will result in rain Wednesday morning and a drop in temperatures. Atlanta’s forecast high is 63.

Rain could return Friday, when metro Atlanta faces a 30 percent chance of precipitation, Channel 2 reported. Wet weather is expected through the weekend.
