Atlanta has done more than broken a record high set 15 years ago.
“We smashed it,” Channel 2 Action News Chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said Thursday afternoon, while the temperature was still climbing.
Atlanta topped out at 79 degrees Thursday. The previous record, set in 2003, was 74.
“Frankly, I can’t remember the last time we broke a record by 5 degrees,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

It’s currently 69 degrees.
Pollen accompanied the warm temperatures, Channel 2 reported. Thursday’s count was 109 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air in Atlanta.
To be clear, that isn't a lot. Last year's season high, recorded on March 31, was 3,559. In 2017, the season high was 4,107.
Friday’s forecast high is 80 degrees, and Saturday is expected to be in the upper 70s, according to Channel 2.
Highs are expected to drop next week.
“A cold front will make a push through Georgia this weekend,” Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said. “It will produce rain and isolated storms.”
There is a 20 percent rain chance Friday, a 20 percent chance Saturday and a 100 percent chance Sunday.
"Race weather is still looking wet on Sunday for the QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway," Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said.
