It has been hard to miss the heat lately in metro Atlanta.

Brace yourself. It isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Temperatures are expected to reach highs of 94 degrees Monday and 95 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Channel 2 Action News.

In fact, highs are expected to linger in the mid-90s through Sunday.

Temperatures were 87 degrees in Atlanta, 74 degrees in Blairsville and 88 degrees in Griffin just after 8 p.m.

Humidity was at 53 percent around that time.

There is only a 20 percent chance of isolated, late-day showers through Friday for metro Atlanta.

Northeast of the metro area, showers started in the afternoon. Heavier downpours drenched I-85 in Banks County during the lunch hour, meteorologists said.

By 4:30 p.m., some showers made their way to metro Atlanta in the form of scattered flashes, mainly in eastern and southern counties.

Thunderstorm warnings were issued for Gwinnett and Barrow counties, but expired by 5:15 p.m., according to Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz.

“They’ll continue isolated through the early evening hours,” Nitz said. “But once the sun sets, the fuel for these storms goes away, and then we’ll see the rain come to an end.”

The metro area should dry out by 9 p.m., Nitz said.
