This Lake Chatuge waterpark might be Georgia’s best way to beat the heat

When the world seems to be moving too quickly, you can slow down on a river. Georgia has lots of places where you can put a tube in the water and just float your cares away. Rental fees often include the tube, life vest and a shuttle ride to the river. Some locations even rent tubes with coolers, so you can bring food and drinks. Tubing can be enjoyable for the entire family, as long as children meet height and age requirements.

Climb, jump and scramble your way up the Action Tower XL. Launch yourself into the air from the Dome. Battle your way to the top of the SpringBoard. Swing your way to the tough balancing act of the Target.

Monkey bars and all, Lake Chatuge’s Marina Station Water Park is an obstacle course unlike any other in Georgia. It offers an opportunity for a weekend of summer fun, if you don’t mind getting a little wet.

The water park — just one of the offerings available at The Ridges in Hiawassee — is comprised of floating obstacles, with courses for both the young and for the brave.

Just a two-hour drive from Atlanta, the park may be North Georgia’s best kept secret — a lakeside resort with a unique take on water parks — and it’s a great way to beat the heat.

“Marina Station Water Park is an inflatable on-water obstacle course that provides hours of high-energy fun for persons of all ages,” according to The Ridges’ website. “It’s designed to ensure every ‘Splasher’ has an amazing experience and is the perfect attraction for those seeking over-the-top adventures, mind-blowing acrobatic thrills, and safe, yet fun, athletic challenges.”

Marina Station Water Park, located at 3379 US Highway 76, is open 10 a.m. through 7 p.m. every day. One hour of time at the park costs $18, and an all-day park pass costs $42. A family of four can earn all-day access for $150, and groups of 20 or more cost $35 per person.

“For safety, we suggest participants be at least seven years old and 45 inches in height and must be good swimmers,” according to The Ridges’ website. “If a participant does not meet the above specifications, they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children, ages 4-7, are welcome on our new Kid’s Circuit!”
