Madison’s Southern Cross Guest Ranch is a delightful Georgia mini-vacation destination for anyone in the market for a little fresh air, some good eating and a lot of fun. Featuring horseback riding, bed and breakfast experiences, and an all-inclusive vacation package, the ranch is a one-stop-shop for equine fans and lovers of rustic getaways alike.
It all started back in 1975, when German-born Inge purchased her first farm in Indiana and discovered a growing passion for her equine friends. Following a successful run in the horse breeding industry, Inge and her husband turned their attention to Georgia, where they began Southern Cross Guest Ranch in 1991 — the Peach State’s very own “Dude ranch.”
“For many of our guests The Ranch is a second home, their place of escape and a place where many horse dreams come true,” according to the ranch’s website. “Today, Southern Cross Ranch remains a family affair involving all three of Inge’s children. Her daughter, Yvonne, has found her niche in the kitchen creating specialty desserts.
“Noel, her oldest son, who played a pivotal role in the ranch’s early triumphs continues to push forward his mother’s legacy with the help of his brother Lance, who focuses mostly on the breeding program. With Inge’s eldest grandson Weston already running the day-to-day equine operations there is yet another generation of grandchildren waiting to become a part of the ranch’s story in the future.”
The ranch offers three different booking options: all inclusive (riding), all inclusive (non-riding), and bed and breakfast. While all three options offer complimentary breakfast, snacks, unlimited soft drinks and mountain biking, each option does come with unique offerings.
The all-inclusive riding package includes two daily horse rides, in addition to lodging and other amenities. The all-inclusive non-riding package offers the same amenities at a lower price, and the bed and breakfast option welcomes guests looking for a more traditional weekend experience.
