When U.S. News released its list of the 30 Best Places to Visit in the USA, one Georgia location made the list.
Savannah came in at No. 27, with the publication stating the Hostess City of the South “is one of the best destinations the South has to offer.” That’s due in part its history and cuisine.
“Over the past few years, we’ve seen an influx of travelers looking to escape to the slow pace of nature, researching destinations like well-known national parks, scenic beaches and small mountain towns. The trend continues this year, especially as tourists continue to adhere to (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) travel guidelines and seek vacation spots with space to spread out,” said Christine Smith, senior travel editor at U.S. News in a statement. “The U.S. News Best Vacations lists highlight a wide variety of destinations both close to home and abroad, helping tourists find the best spot to match their interests and wallet.”
National Geographic has several reasons why Savannah should be on your list of places to visit.
Grab a bike and ride or hike along the six-mile McQueen’s Island Trail. It’s a stretch of the Savannah & Atlantic Railroad line that was abandoned in 1933. If the supernatural is up your alley, visit the Bonaventure Cemetery. It’s been one of the city’s most iconic locations since opening in 1846. It was featured in the hit novel “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” and the 1997 Clint Eastwood-directed movie adaptation.
In addition to being one of U.S News’ top places to visit in the country, Savannah is also the No. 1 on the lists of the Best Places to Visit in Georgia, Best Relaxing Getaways in the USA and Best Cheap Romantic Getaways.
