Brenda Galina's penthouse at Colony Square off of 14th Street offers a view of the city and a vast green area. Galina is the new executive director of the Museum of Design Atlanta. Her home will be on display for the first Colony Square Tour of Penthouses on Oct. 28.

Brenda Galina, executive director of the Museum of Design Atlanta, sits at a table in her roof garden just outside her penthouse. Galina's next-door neighbor expanded his interior space, taking space from the outdoor area. "There's only two of us who have this (size) garden," she said. "When we left Roswell, we thought we said bye-bye to the garden."

Guests are greeted by a wooden sculpture by Chad Awalt in the foyer of the Galinas' three-level penthouse.

Four leather Barcelona chairs flank the living room fireplace. Galina treasures her blue vases by Dante Marioni and a red bowl by renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly.

Interior designer Charles Gandy positioned the Galinas' wooden Moulthrop bowls in front of an inset wall made of onyx. The bowls were given new life when the Galinas moved from their home in Roswell to the Midtown penthouse.

The living room fireplace is surrounded by onyx. Galina prefers the color white to showcase the couple's art collection.

Georgia artist Teena Stern's work is displayed in the kitchen along with Elaine Alt's tureen and teapot. The kitchen, which features blond laminate cabinetry with granite counters, will be on the first Colony Square Tour of Penthouses on Oct. 28.

Galina stands under the trellis in her roof garden. "I like the outside because it's unique for a penthouse in the city," she says of her rooftop garden. Georgia artist Teena Stern created a water sculpture for the area.

A glass bowl by artist Hans Godo Frabel sits center stage in the dining room. A sculpture by John Petrey is positioned near the window. The Galinas love the view at night when the city lights "become magical."

The upstairs living room in the Colony Square penthouse offers a view of the city and green space. The art above the sofa is James Lahey's "Index Abstraction."

The studio-style guest suite is separate from the penthouse. The hardwood floors throughout the suite are stained brown to compliment the walls and furnishings, giving it a cozy feel.

The master bedroom is done in bold grays and silk.

Track lighting illuminates some of the many pieces of art in the master bedroom, which also includes artwork by local painter Maggie Hasbrouck.

The design of the penthouse's door, which is inlaid with onyx, is the focus of this corner with a bookshelf of family portraits.

The bathroom of the guest apartment. During renovations, Galina decided to take out the bathtub and replace it with a roomy shower. She also added marble.

Downstairs, the breathtaking sitting room is sometimes silver, sometimes dark grey or black depending on the time of day and lighting. The blown glass piece on the left is by Harvey K. Littleton.
