According to a recent study, only 49% of African Americans have traveled internationally, compared to 75% of white Americans and 73% of Hispanic Americans. Courtney Simone founded Adventure in Black to change that.
Adventure in Black’s goal is to help create luxury experiences for Black travelers, opening eyes, doors and avenues to those who might be scared to travel alone and providing them with a safe group for the perfect expedition.
In an interview with Essence, Simone shared how her own travels had impacted her life — and made her a firm believer in thinking of travel as a form of self-care.
”It’s about being intentional by saying ‘I am going to do something nice for myself. I’m going to travel and go see that thing I want to see or do what I’ve always wanted to do.’ That’s a form of self-care and self-love.”
Simone is a Howard alumna who had a vision to cultivate the essence and beauty of black people from across the globe. Travelers on an AIB tour can expect to be uplifted and inspired. Each journey is carefully crafted so guests can have the best experience.
A few of AIB’s upcoming expeditions include:
- November 4-12: Thailand
- January 24-30: Jazz Festival in Cuba - SOLD OUT
- February 12- 19: The “Bae-cation” Experience in Bali, Indonesia
- April 24-30: Columbia
AIB offers payment plans and book-now-pay-later plans to make vacation easy and affordable. Guests will receive an itinerary — with meals included — and dedicated time for them to explore on their own if they wish. Groups are capped at 20 travelers, so most trips sell out quickly.
“I want people to know the names of the people they’re traveling with. It’s about forming deep connections with people and building community while on the trip. It’s deeper than travel. We are building long-lasting connections and friendships.” said Simone
