Q: Currants seem impossible to find, even during the holidays. I found Sun-Maid at Walmart several years ago, and two years ago got bulk currants at Fresh Market. I can order them in a four-pack from Amazon, but who needs 32 ounces of currants? Thanks. — E. Greene, email

A: Unlike the tiny ruby-colored currants, which are berries grown on bushes and usually not dried, Zante currants refer to small, seedless Black Corinth grapes. They have more flavor than larger standard raisins and are often used in savory dishes as well as in baked goods, including cookies, muffins and scones. Locally, you can find 8-ounce bags of Sun-Maid Zante currants for $3.19 each on aisle nine at Buford Highway Farmers Market, 5600 Buford Highway, Doraville, 770-455-0770.
Q: I have a couple of chairs with rush or reed seats. These are two of my favorite chairs, but age has caught up with them, and the rush or reed needs to be replaced. I don’t know where to go to have this done. — David Dimling, Atlanta
A: David, I have two recommendations for you. You can contact Dennis McLeroy, 770-757-0779, who does caning, including hand-woven caning and rushing. Describe your chairs, and he can tell you if the material is reed or rush. You can also try Chairish Atlanta, 1657 Defoor Ave., Atlanta, 404-351-5717, which specializes in furniture refinishing, restoration, caning and rushing. Note that Chairish Atlanta is not affiliated with the online home décor marketplace of the same name.
Q: I have two framed portraits, which are color photographs that have faded over time. Is there someone in the Atlanta area who could retouch them for me? Thank you. — Kathy Wooten, Albany
A: You can take your portraits to Advance Photo & Imaging, 6025 Sandy Springs Circle, Sandy Springs, 404-255-6275. Along with photography, the shop also offers photo restoration, including colorizing and retouching photos. For a list of Advance Photo’s extensive services, go to advphoto.com.
