All aboard! If you’re into trains — whether they’re real or models — the Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History is the place to be on Saturday, Jan. 25, and Sunday, Jan. 26. The museum is hosting its annual Trains, Trains, Trains! event, which is its biggest of the year. From artifacts to model trains to a chance to board a caboose, the event has something for nearly every railroad aficionado.
One of the event’s highlights is the grand opening of the renovated Southern Railway Caboose X372, which you can board for an additional $5 donation to the museum (free for children 3 and under.) The caboose was built in 1975, and guests will be able to learn how railroad crews operated around this time period.

You’ll also be able to see model train layouts that vary in size and theme. Many feature interactive buttons so you can control some of the action. And railroad artifacts will be on display for you to touch and hold as you learn about how they were used.
Looking for a souvenir to take home? The museum’s gift shop, the General Emporium, will double in size for the occasion. You’ll be able to choose from plenty of train-themed items such as model trains, clothing and more.
Trains, Trains, Trains! will be held from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. on Jan. 25-26. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors age 65 and up, and $5 for children 3-17 and university students with ID as well as active duty, reserve, guard and retired military personnel with ID. Members are admitted free.
Parking will be available at Swift-Cantrell Park, 3150 Old 41 Highway NW, Kennesaw, with a free shuttle to take you to and from the museum.
The Southern Museum is located at 2829 Cherokee St. in downtown Kennesaw. More information: 770-427-2117, southernmuseum.org.
