By a self-admitted miracle, “Jackass” star Steve O in June managed to make it to the age of 50.
To celebrate, he had Post Malone tattoo a penis over his right eyebrow, which seems very much on brand. He also participated in a triathlon.
“I know I will lose to Father Time eventually,” Steve O told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week in a Zoom call. “But I’m making it my business to kick him in the " ― well, someplace it would hurt — “first.”
Plus, he added, “It cost people dearly on their celebrity death pool.”
Still, Steve O (real name: Stephen Glover) knows his limitations as he dives deeper into middle age. He has decided to largely retire stunts that involve hot coals, coconut crabs pinching his posterior and getting tased.
“I wasn’t doing much recently and I heard a pop in my left calf,” he said. “I’ve got a ruptured calf muscle now. It’s the curse of being a 50-year-old guy.”
He’ll show off some of his final wacky stunts via video while providing an audience a combo of stories and stand-up comedy at Atlanta Symphony Hall Tuesday, Dec. 10. Yes, Steve O admits that is one oddball venue for his style of entertainment.
“It’s remarkable over the past few years the staggering number of prestigious opera houses and theaters I have defiled with my multimedia comedy,” he said.
Steve O, who has been doing stand up for 15 years, promises he will show off stunts that “are too much for ‘Jackass,’ the show. It tickles me to do so.”
He said he can’t obviously keep doing high impact stunts long term. “If this is the last stunt project I ever work on, I’m OK with that,” he said. “I just had to raise the bar one more time. It was a comedy of errors. But I’m a belligerently persistent SOB. I refuse to give up until the job is done. I want to cement my legacy.”
And his stand up material, he said, is as true as can be. “My life is so ridiculous, it doesn’t need to be embellished,” he said.
As a longtime animal welfare activist, Steve O’s current focus is on a new nonprofit animal sanctuary called Radical Ranch in Portland, Tennessee, 40 miles north of downtown Nashville. Earlier this year, he moved from Los Angeles to this 44-acre property near the Kentucky border.
Currently, he has four goats, two pigs, three cats and two dogs. Maintaining a sanctuary, he said, “is quite expensive.”
He hopes to raise enough funds and draw enough visitors to take care of a sizable number of animals and make the ranch self sustaining.
“I’m going to sooner rather than later announce dates that people can book a visit to the Radical Ranch, which will be an experience in its own right,” Steve O said. “There will be a meet and greet and tour. There is a skateboard barn with a ramp. I have four motorcycles and a UTV. I have all this archery stuff. There is plenty of fun stuff to do.”
