Holiday crafts can be powerful reminders of Christmas past. From those glitter-covered ornaments your kids made in 3rd grade to the wobbly tree topper that’s seen better days, unpacking these holiday keepsakes is one of the best parts of the season.

If you’re ready to make some new memories — and some pretty cool crafts — check out these make-and-take workshops happening around town this year:

Callanwolde Holiday Workshops

Various times and dates throughout December. Prices vary, but start at around $20. Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, 980 Briarcliff Road NE, Atlanta. 404-872-5338.

Callanwolde is hosting multiple holiday art workshops as part of its Winter House event, offering classes for kids, teens and adults. In one class, you can create marble painted ornaments and leave with three handmade, unique ornaments. In another, you’ll make an eco-friendly holiday wreath embellished with all natural plant materials.

Painting with a Twist

Various dates, times and locations at several metro Atlanta locations, including Alpharetta and Lawrenceville. Most classes are around $40.

Painting with a Twist holds classes to help you create a painting such as an ornament with a stylized “A” on it, a Christmas mandala tree, a snowy Santa and more.

Gingerbread Houses

10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 11. $75 for a family of four with at least one adult. Publix Aprons Cooking School, 4305 State Bridge Road, Alpharetta. 770-751-8561.

Bring the kids age 4 and up to decorate your own gingerbread house with all the materials provided.

Holiday Ornament Decorating Class

6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13. From $30 (depending on the number of ornaments you want to make). Monkey Wrench Brewing, 3425 Martin Farm Road, Suwanee.

Check out Pinterest and Google for inspiration before you go and then design your own make-and-take ornaments using acrylic paint, fake snow, glitter and glass ball ornaments provided. You’ll receive guided instruction along the way, as well as a free Monkey Wrench beer.

The Perfect Gift Art Explosion

7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15. $40. Blackbird Farms and Brewery, 4098 Lawrenceville Highway, Lilburn. 770-559-8434.

Start by creating acrylic pour ornaments, sipping on some micro-brewed beer and then experimenting with other art mediums. The event is over when you’ve finished your masterpieces.

Winter Holidays Pop-Up Craft Event

10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17. Smyrna History Museum & Train Depot, 2861 Atlanta Road SE, Smyrna.

Kids age 3 and up can learn about holidays from many different cultures around the holidays and then make a craft related to Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Bodhi Day, Winter Solstice and others.

Pop-In for Family Fun: Holiday Crafts

10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17. Marietta History Center, 1 Depot St. NE, Marietta.

Pop in at the Marietta History Museum, where they’ll have holiday-themed crafts and activities for families to do together.

Art in the Park: Candle Making

5 p.m.-6:45 p.m. and 7 p.m.-8:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19. $25. Ben Robertson Community Center, 2753 Watts Drive, Kennesaw. 770-424-8274.

Make two eight-ounce candles using high-quality wax, wicks and natural essential oils. Labels and small pottery charms will be available to enhance your candles, as well as items you can use to write a note along with them if they’ll be used as a gift. The candles need to be left at the center for 24 hours to harden and set completely, but then you can pick them up.
