Seize the day and encourage your grandkids to do the same as breezy, warm weather heralds early spring in the Atlanta area. Opportunities abound to celebrate the season.
If you don’t have established early spring rituals try one of these this week.
Tree Planting in Grove Park
9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, March 16. Free to volunteer. Meet near 727 N. Evelyn Pl. NW, Atlanta.
Plant shade for future generations and enjoy tending to the urban forest at the direction of experienced Trees Atlanta members. Volunteers can be any age, but a parent or guardian must be present with kids younger than 16.
The three-hour volunteer stint includes lots of grubbing about in the dirt, digging holes, untangling roots for trees going in the ground — that sort of thing.
This is a potential springtime tradition for all the extended family, one that’s both active and service-oriented, but mostly good clean fun.
Be sure to bring water bottles, any allergy medications or EpiPens, and sunscreen or bug spray. Wear close-toed shoes that can get dirty and long pants to work in.
Mad Hatter’s Tea Party
11 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, 16. $10 for members, $15 for non-members. The Cultural Arts Center, 8652 Campbellton St., Douglasville.
Head to the suburb of Douglasville for easy-paced interactive fun for ages 3-10 and their adults.
The theme is “Alice in Wonderland.” Manifest in activities including flamingo croquet, cookie decorating, storytelling, and a “Pin the Grin on the Cheshire Cat” game.
If the young ones are already yearning for Easter fun, there’s also an egg hunt, and adults are reminded to break out their best Easter bonnets for the tea party.
BYOB – baskets to collect eggs, that is. And don’t forget to watch the movie ahead of time to get everyone in the mood.
Yule Forest Tulip Festival
11 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday-Sunday, March 16-17, $15.95, ages 2 and under free. Yule Forest, 3565 Hwy 155N, Stockbridge.
Blooms galore await in the fields and market of Yule Forest. Along with an artisan marketplace, kids and adults can visit farm animals and take home bouquets picked together.
Share your love of gardening with the young ones. Tickets available to purchase online only.
