The mystery over Tiger Woods'  "special announcement" Monday morning on the Golf Channel has been answered -- there is none. No mystery and no announcement.

The Golf Channel's website now says that it will air an interview with Woods' agent, Mark Steinberg, at 11 a.m. but that Woods will not be present at the interview.

Reports that Woods would make an announcement set off a flurry of speculation by golf observers that Woods may announce he will not play for the rest of the year -- or longer.

There was even speculation he planned to announce his retirement, although he recently said he was optimistic that he would return to his previous form and continue his quest to break Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 major wins.

Woods, 35, who has won 14 majors, announced last week that he would not play in the British Open due to injuries to his knee and Achilles tendon.

Woods has not played since May, when the injuries forced him to withdraw from the Players Championship

He has not won a major since the 2008 U.S. Open.
