You know what’s awesome? Braves baseball.

You know what’s not? Figuring out how to watch it these days.

Let’s decipher the team’s latest broadcasting news together, shall we?

Just a little while ago, the Braves dropped a social media post with a … complicated two-page explainer of this season’s TV options.

It’s a lot to digest, but there are some positive developments in there if you look hard!

📺 For the cord-cutters: The biggest and newest development is that fans in the Braves’ traditional broadcast footprint can now subscribe and stream directly through the FanDuel Sports Network app and FanDuelSportsNetwork.com.

That’s a big deal for folks looking to avoid cable and the never-ending, blackout-threatening battles between providers and the regional sports networks that carry most games.

  • The catch: It’ll cost you $19.99 a month.

The Braves said FanDuel Sports Network is also en route to Prime Video, though “launch timing and purchasing specifics” are TBA. Which sure sounds like you’ll still be paying extra.

(If you’re completely out of the Braves TV market, you can pay $149.99 or so for a year of MLB.TV.)

📺 On cable: As we all know, these things have a habit of changing. But customers in Georgia and parts of other surrounding states can get FanDuel Sports channels through Xfinity, AT&T U-verse, DirecTV, DirecTV STREAM, Fubo and Spectrum.

Regular season games will simultaneously air on FanDuel Sports South and FanDuel Sports Southeast (which is notable for our friends outside the Atlanta area).

  • The networks will also show seven spring training games. The first is March 2.

📺 “Free” TV options: Gray Media (i.e. Peachtree TV and the CW in Atlanta) will also broadcast 10 spring training games and 15 regular season games. This is the over-the-air stuff you can watch for free if you have the right setup (digital antennas are cheap and easy to set up. They work too!).

  • These games include the season opener March 27, the home opener April 4 and every Friday home game

Check this page if you have more specific questions or need to look at a map to figure out your geographic situation.

🗣️ Then sound off! Shoot me an email at tyler.estep@ajc.com and let me know what you think about all this. I may include some feedback in tomorrow’s newsletter — which will also offer a preseason Q&A with Braves beat writer Justin Toscano.

TRIVIA TIME

What year did Braves games begin broadcasting nationally on TBS, feeding a whole generation of hungry baseball fans without the headaches?

The Hawks won their third straight despite struggling on offense — and despite a pair of … questionable defensive plays by the opposing Magic.

The back-to-back fourth quarter incidents forced key bench pieces Larry Nance Jr. and Vit Krejci out of the game with knee and back injuries, respectively.

LIVE FROM THE FLATS

Mark those calendars, folks: Georgia Tech football’s annual White & Gold game is set for 1 p.m. on April 12.

Beyond presenting an excuse to enjoy a lovely Saturday afternoon at Bobby Dodd, the scrimmage will offer the Yellow Jacket faithful their first good look at new defensive coordinator Blake Gideon.

AJC beat reporter Chad Bishop (@MrChadBishop) called Gideon, a 35-year-old former Texas assistant, “a home run hire on paper.” He’s a strong recruiter with a chance to turn the Jackets’ very good 2024 defense into something great.

🗣️ “Tech ranked last in the ACC in 2024 in sacks, next to last in takeaways and 12th in the league in tackles for loss,” Chad told me. “Should Gideon find a way for his unit to generate a more disruptive pass rush and to force turnovers, the Yellow Jackets could very well become a league title contender given their returning starters and influx of new talent in 2025.”

A CUP OF AMBITION

New Atlanta United striker Emmanuel Latte Lath spoke exclusively with the AJC’s Doug Roberson down in Bradenton, Florida, where the Five Stripes are getting ready for their Feb. 22 season opener.

And the man’s got goals.

“It’s important because when you wake up in the morning, you will just read them every time, and they give you more motivation to go to training,” he said.

🤔 No more roster moves imminent for United

OK, ONE MORE SUPER BOWL THING

Beyond “draft more former UGA stars,” what can the Falcons learn from the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles?

D. Orlando Ledbetter offers five potential takeaways — and we’re talking about some pretty fundamental stuff, folks!

NBA star Luka Doncic scored 14 points in three quarters during his much-anticipated debut with the Lakers on Monday night. He seemed to enjoy himself, too.

Things weren’t going as well in Dallas, his former home.

Oh, and the trivia answer is 1976 (they debuted on the SuperStation in 1973 but took a few years to go national). Thanks Ted!
