Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick interviewed for the Norfolk State head coach position, according to a report from the The Virginian-Pilot and Daily Press. Vick told the newspaper that he expected a resolution “soon.”

In addition, ESPN reported that Vick and Sacramento State are in discussions about its head coach position. Sacramento State plans to move up to FBS, is building a new stadium and has over $50 million in NIL, according to the report.

After his collegiate career at Virginia Tech, Vick was selected No. 1 overall in the 2001 NFL draft by the Falcons. Vick played for Atlanta from 2001-2008, earning three of his four Pro Bowl selections. His time as a player in Atlanta ended after a 2007 arrest and prison sentence for federal felony dog fighting conspiracy charges.

Vick returned to football after his nearly two-year stint in prison. He played for the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers before retiring from football in 2017.

Vick has no formal college football coach experience, but told the The Virginian-Pilot: “I know how to lead and I know what it takes.”

Norfolk State, an HBCU in Norfolk, Va., fired coach Dawson Odums in November after four seasons. The Spartans went 4-8 (2-3 MEAC) in 2024.
