Scott Roberts is out as head coach of Swainsboro in one of the more surprising moves in the off-season.

Swainsboro was 10-2 last season and won its first playoff game since 2004. It was Roberts' second season as head coach.

"I was told that the reason I was being replaced was that the morale of the coaching staff was low," Roberts was quoted as saying in the Swainsboro News. "That was the only reason I was given."

A native of Irwin County, Roberts had been an assistant at Fitzgerald, Cairo, Jackson County and Colquitt County.

The decision to replace Roberts was made last week at a board of education meeting.

"My wife and I love these kids and have poured our hearts and souls into this program," Roberts told the newspaper. "It is a disappointment. We have enjoyed our time here leading the athletic department of the school. I appreciate what this community has done for me and my family. I appreciate the players, the coaches, and all the boosters."
