There were few changes in the Georgia high school girls basketball rankings after a week that was cut short for a number of teams because of the winter weather that postponed games in North Georgia.
All eight No. 1-ranked teams held on to their top spots. They are North Paulding in Class 6A, Hughes in 5A, Creekside in 4A, Baldwin in 3A, Thomson in 2A, Elbert County in A Division I, Taylor County in A Division II and Hebron Christian in 3A-A private.
Two of those teams will go head-to-head next week when North Paulding takes on Baldwin in the MLK Classic at Holy Innocents’.
New Manchester of Class 5A was one of only four new teams moving into the rankings this week. The Jaguars replaced previous No. 5 Pope, which fell out of the top 10 after losses to No. 2 River Ridge and No. 6 Creekview last week by an average of 32.5 points.
Banks County of Class A Division I made the biggest splash among the newly ranked teams, coming in at No. 7 after victories over Rabun County (59-43) and Class 3A-A private Athens Academy (61-40). The Leopards have won seven consecutive games since a 3-5 start, with all five losses coming against higher-classification or higher-ranked teams. Banks County replaced Bleckley County, which fell from No. 9 after losses to Central-Macon and East Laurens.
Union County replaced Ringgold in Class 2A, and Metter replaced Randolph-Clay in Class A Division I.
