Grayson of Class 6A and Pace Academy of Class 4A retained their No. 1 boys basketball rankings after beating top-five opponents in games that decided first place in their regions last week.

Grayson (15-1) defeated No. 3 Newton 72-56 in a Region 4-6A game while Pace Academy (14-2) beat No. 3 Maynard Jackson 78-65 in Region 4-4A.

Grayson and Pace are undefeated against Georgia opponents this season, and both will travel out of state next week, Grayson to Massachusetts for the Hoopball Classic and Pace to Ohio for the Flyin’ to the Hoop showcase. Pace’s in-state dominance will be tested before that, on Thursday, when the Knights play Class 6A’s No. 4 team, McEachern.

Six teams entered the rankings in a week shortened a bit by wintry weather that postponed games in north Georgia.

Newly ranked are Westlake and Buford in Class 6A, Midtown and Tucker in 4A, Towers in A Division I and Turner County in A Division II. Out of the top 10 are Hillgrove, Grovetown, Westminster, Jonesboro, Dublin and Early County.
