Travis Hunter catches 2 TD passes in 1st quarter of Jackson State spring game

Travis Hunter, the Collins Hill wide receiver/cornerback who shocked the college football world in December when he flipped his commitment from Florida State to Jackson State on signing day, played his first spring game as a college player Sunday, and the results were impressive.

The AJC’s 2021 all-classification football player of the year caught two touchdown passes and intercepted a pass in the first quarter alone.

One of the touchdowns covered 80 yards; the other was a diving catch in the end zone. Both were thrown by Shedeur Sanders, the son of Jackson State coach Deion Sanders, the former Atlanta Falcons star.

Hunter, whose best long-term position is probably cornerback, intercepted a second pass later in the game.

ESPNU televised the scrimmage, making it the first time the network has featured an HBCU school for a spring game.

Hunter was the consensus No. 1 recruit in the country who was committed to FSU for more than a year before his stunning announcement Dec. 15.

Hunter led Collins Hill to its first state title last season and finished his high school career with 48 TD receptions, a state record, and 3,963 yards receiving, fourth most all-time. He also had 19 interceptions as a full-time cornerback, his favored position.
