Lee County moved to the top of the Class 6A rankings after previous No. 1 Buford suffered a rare loss last week, and Dougherty, a winless team in 2020, is in the rankings for the first time since 2006 after a 4-0 start.

Newton, a Class 7A team off to a 3-0 start, also is ranked for the first time in more than 10 years.

Buford, a two-time defending state champion, lost to Chaminade-Madonna 7-0, marking the first time the Wolves have been shutout since 2015. Chaminade, a Florida champion three of the past four seasons, is the first to shut out Buford at Buford since Greater Atlanta Christian in 1998. Buford fell to No. 2 behind Lee County, the 2020 runner-up. Lee is 5-0.

In Class 4A, Dougherty is ranked No. 10 after a 4-0 start. The Albany team went 0-5 in 2020 when its season was truncated by COVID cancellations.

Newton is No. 9 in Class 7A. That marks the Rams’ first appearance in the rankings since 2010. Newton is 3-0 after beating McEachern last week.
