Kennesaw Mountain, a Cobb County school that opened in 2000, is ranked in football for the first time after a 4-0 start, also a first.

The Mustangs is the new No. 9 team in Class 6A after defeating Sprayberry 47-3 last week and moving into a tie for first place in Region 6-6A with Pope. Kennesaw Mountain has never won a region title.

West Forsyth and LaGrange also broke top-10 droughts.

West Forsyth, the No. 10 team in 7A, defeated No. 4 Walton 51-35. The victory was West Forsyth’s first over a top-10 team in the same classification since 2011. West Forsyth is ranked for the first time since 2012.

LaGrange, No. 9 in 4A, is in the rankings for the first time since 2010, after three lopsided victories.

The high school season is entering the fifth of 12 regular-season weeks.
