Girls flag football coach Zach Corcoran, of St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School, is the Week 7 Falcons Coach of the Week, presented by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Corcoran, an alumni of the Columbus school who also coaches the girls soccer teams, started the football team in 2020.
Girls flag football became a championship varsity sport last fall. More than 75 schools statewide participate. In the inaugural season, Corcoran led the Lady Vikings to a region championship and a spot among the 16 teams in the GHSA state playoffs. The finals are played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
“He is an enthusiastic advocate for our female athletes and has worked to make sure they have opportunities for training and competition,” coach Corcoran’s nomination says.
The Arthur M. Blank Foundation and the Falcons funded a pilot program with high school club teams for two years before the GHSA became the fourth state association to sanction girls flag football. The program also has support from the NFL.
Each winner of the Coach of the Week program receives a $1,000 grant for their football program, a commemorative Falcons item and recognition from the Falcons and Atlanta Journal-Constitution. | Nominate a coach
