Tim Barron, the Week 10 Falcons Coach of the Week, presented by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, has the Villa Rica football program headed in the right direction in his first year at the Carroll County school.
Barron won 153 games, including the 2018 Class AA state championship, in 19 seasons at Heard County before taking over at Villa Rica this season. Barron and the Wildcats have won seven straight after opening the season with two losses, including last week’s victory over defending Region 6-5A champion New Manchester in Douglasville to earn the school’s first region title since 1998.
“They’re leaning to take ownership and not point fingers at anybody else,” Barron said about this year’s team. “It ultimately comes back to the moment of saying that we love them and care about them and they can trust us and, on the opposite end, we’ve learned to trust them.”
The NFL and Atlanta Falcons recognized 10 head high school varsity tackle and girls flag football coaches across the states of Georgia and Alabama throughout the 2021 season with the Coach of the Week award, presented by the AJC, for their work in making a difference in student-athletes lives on-and-off the field.
Each winner receives a $1,000 grant for their football program, a commemorative Falcons item and recognition from the Falcons and AJC. | Nominate a coach
