The second recipient of the Atlanta Falcons’ Coach of the Week Award, presented by the AJC, of the 2021 season is Bowdon High School’s Rich Fendley.
When Fendley arrived at the 1A Public program four years ago he was following legendary head coach Dwight Hochstetler, who had won 13 region championships and a state title in 27 seasons. Fendley started with 28 players, changed the traditional wing T offense to one with more multiple looks and reset the west Georgia program that has been playing football since 1926.
The Red Devils (8-5) won a Region 6 title in 2020.
The son of longtime Warner Robins head coach Richard Fendley Sr., Rich Fendley served on staffs at Heard County and Westside in Macon before arriving in Bowdon.
His nomination credits Fendley with being “genuinely concerned about all of his players and their futures.” The Coach of the Week program celebrates coaches making a difference in student-athletes lives on-and-off the field. | Nominate a coach
Each winner of the Coach of the Week program receives a $1,000 grant for their football program, a commemorative Falcons item and recognition from the Falcons and Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
