Leroy Hood took the Pebblebrook job in 2019 after stints at Tift County and Turner County. The Week 8 Falcons Coach of the Week, presented by the Atlanta-Journal-Constitution, has built a genuine contender that is in line to win its first region championship since 2006.
The Falcons scored their first victory over a ranked opponent since 2003, defeating defending Region 2-7A champion East Coweta 38-21 earlier this season. It was the kind of win, Hood says is “program-changing.”
Hood has Pebblebrook ranked for the first time since 2003.
He arrived at Pebblebrook knowing it offered an opportunity to compete. He told the AJC recently: “I knew there were talented kids at Pebblebrook and in Mableton. ... Pebblebrook was in a quality region but it was also in a region that we’d have a shot to compete for a region title at some point. The opportunity and challenge of doing something that hadn’t been done as a football program intrigued me.”
Each winner of the Coach of the Week program receives a $1,000 grant for their football program, a commemorative Falcons item and recognition from the Falcons and AJC. | Nominate a coach
