Cambridge overcome three turnovers and posted a school-record third shutout of the season Friday night in a 28-0 home victory over Sequoyah in a Region 6-6A game.

Quarterback Zach Harris completed 10 of 13 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. Christian Isibor added 15 rushes for 116 yards and one touchdown.

“We had three turnovers in the red zone, and that’s 21 points,” Cambridge coach Craig Bennett said. “We’ve just got to clean it up. Some of it is on me. If we clean some of those little things up and put drives together, we will be OK.’’

Cambridge forced two turnovers, one an interception by Hardin Skipper, and the other put this game to rest late in the second quarter thanks to a 66-yard scoop and score by Ben Ridenour, halting Sequoyah’s drive into Cambridge territory.

“They are good and are just playing their butts off,” Bennett said of his defense, which entered allowing only 8.0 points per game, third-fewest in Class 6A. “They play hard, and the coaches are doing a phenomenal job planning and prepping those guys. They are just buying into what we do.”

Despite the lopsided score, Sequoyah had chances to get back in the game thanks to the defense that forced two fumbles and one interception but could not muster up consistent drives.

Sequoyah quarterback Matthew Traynor showed flashes of his athletic ability with two scrambles that eluded sacks, one for 18 yards and the other for 21 yards. He finished 9-of-14 passing for 98 yards, one interception, and 58 yards rushing. Peyton Lucas added 49 yards rushing.

Cambridge (5-0, 3-0) is tied for first in region 6A with Johns Creek, and the two will play each other next week. Cambridge, a 9-year-old-school, has never won a region title.

“Next week, the most important game we have is Johns Creek,” Bennett said. “They are a good football team. It’s going to be a tough draw.”

Sequoyah (2-4, 0-3) will be home against Chattahoochee.
