A new golf league, featuring PGA Tour golfers and utilizing simulation technology, has come to Atlanta.
The Atlanta Drive GC — part of TGL, a league featuring six teams in a season-long head-to-head competition — will make its debut tonight as they take on New York Golf Club, which is 0-1, having lost the inaugural match to The Bay Golf Club by a score of 9-2.
Atlanta Drive GC is comprised of Justin Thomas, Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay and Lucas Glover. Each head-to-head match consists of 3 team members and tonight’s lineup will consist of Thomas, Horschel and Cantlay who will take on Cameron Young, Rickie Fowler and Matt Fitzpatrick from New York Golf Club.
Each match consists of 15 holes split into two sessions. Session one, called Triples, is a 9 hole 3-person alternate shot format. And session two, called singles, is a 6 holes one-vs-one, head-to-head competition for the entire hole. Each player plays two holes in session two.
But that’s not the only twist. There is a referee, a shot clock, time-outs, and a hammer to raise the stakes. For a full explainer video, visit https://tglgolf.com/explained.
