AUGUSTA — Many favorites to win the 2025 Masters Tournament will be on display Tuesday at Augusta National Golf Club.

Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm, winners of the past three Masters, are expected to practice at the course and meet with the media.

A contingent of contenders aiming for a first green jacket, including Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Bryson DeChambeau and Ludvig Aberg are scheduled to appear, too.

The 89th edition of the Masters runs from Thursday to Sunday.

Sunshine is forecasted through the afternoon on Tuesday, with a high of 71 degrees. Rain halted Monday’s practice rounds and the grounds were evacuated before noon.

Scottie Scheffler has a chance to join Masters legends

Scottie Scheffler is the overwhelming favorite to make history and defend his championship at the Masters.

The No. 1 golfer in the world has yet to win a tournament this year, but another win here at Augusta National would add his name to a legendary list.

He would become just the fourth golfer to win back-to-back Masters: Jack Nicklaus (1965-66), Nick Faldo (1989-90) and Tiger Woods (2001-02).

“I would say that I feel very prepared for this golf tournament,” Scheffler said Tuesday. “This is definitely the most prepared I’ve felt all year.”

In five starts at the Masters, Scheffler has two wins — by four shots in 2024 and by three strokes in 2022 — and has never finished outside of the top 20.

Will Jon Rahm add another Masters victory?

Ahead of his previous eight appearances at the Masters, Jon Rahm made trips to Augusta for added practice seven times.

The outlier? In 2023 when he won the green jacket. He also didn’t come to Augusta National for extra practice rounds this year, but it wasn’t for superstitious reasons. Not yet.

“It just worked out that way,” the Spainard said Tuesday. “No, if I win this year, then I definitely won’t come early again.”

Rahm won the 2023 Masters by four strokes over Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson. He joined Seve Ballesteros, Jose Maria Olazabal and Sergio Garcia as Spain’s fourth tournament champion.

The two-time major winner (including the 2021 U.S. Open) said he’s at ease with his standing, both currently and historically, in the game of golf.

“There’s definitely a before and after when you go to a major knowing you’ve done it already and you know what the formula is,” he said.

Rahm made the cut in each of his eight Masters starts, with five top-10 finishes. At 13/1, he has the third best odds to win behind only Scottie Scheffler (+400) and Rory McIlroy (+650).

Is Rory McIlroy a threat to win the Masters?

Familiar whispers whirl around Augusta National during practice rounds ahead of the Masters.

This could be Rory’s year.

Rory McIlroy is a Masters win away from completing the career Grand Slam. He’s among the favorites this week, though he hasn’t won a major since taking both The Open Championship and PGA Championship in 2014.

“It’s just narratives,” said the 35-year-old Northern Ireland native on Tuesday. “It’s noise. It’s just trying to block out that noise as much as possible. I need to treat this tournament like all the other tournaments that I play throughout the year.”

McIlroy missed the cut in two of the past four Masters. He finished tied for 22nd last year and was runner-up in 2022.

McIlroy said a recent nagging elbow injury isn’t of concern after treatment last week. One change he made — he’s reading fiction for the first time, John Grisham’s “The Reckoning.”

“It’s got off to a pretty good start,” he said.

Tiger Woods, Augusta National team up

Due to injury, Tiger Woods isn’t playing in the Masters this year. But on Monday, Woods, the five-time winner here, announced a partnership with Augusta National Golf Club.

Woods and TGR Designs has agreed to build a nine-hole par-3 short course at the Augusta Municipal Golf Course that is being rebranded as “The Patch.” The new development is expected to open next year around the Masters.

Woods, 49, had surgery last month after rupturing his Achilles tendon.
