Georgia Tech great Stewart Cink played in just his second Masters out of the past seven, but he earned an invitation for the 2022 tournament Sunday with his tie for 12th at Augusta National.

Cink closed out with a 1-under par 71, including pars on the final four holes, to secure his tie for 12th. The top 12 finishers plus ties earn invitations for the following year’s tournament. To nail it down, Cink made an expert save on the final hole after driving into the pine straw to the right of the fairway of the par-4 18th. He reached the green, but was left with a twisty downhill putt of about 50 feet. From there, he left himself a five-foot uphill putt, which he rolled in for par. At 47, he was the oldest player to finish under par.

Cink’s 19th tournament was a special one for him, as his son Reagan — also a Tech grad — was caddying for him for the first time at Augusta. Reagan was to take a job with Delta Air Lines after graduating last spring, but plans changed after COVID-19 and after Cink won the Safeway Open in September to earn a spot in the 2021 Masters. Reagan wanted to caddy for his father at the Masters, and that wish turned into him becoming a full-time caddy for his father.

Reagan earned his wages this week. In his 19 appearances at the Masters, this was only the third time that he’s finished the tournament under par.

Cink was the only former Tech player of the four competing to make it to the weekend. Matt Kuchar, Larry Mize and defending U.S. Amateur champion Tyler Strafaci all did not make the cut.
