Georgia Tech received a commitment from the son of former New York Yankees pitcher and six-time MLB All-Star C.C. Sabathia earlier this week. Carsten Sabathia, a senior corner infielder from Bergen Catholic High in Oradell, N.J., announced his decision to accept a scholarship from Tech on Tuesday.
Sabathia, listed at 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, picked Tech over Harvard, UCLA and Wake Forest, according to an interview with NorthJersey.com. Sabathia added that he was won over by the family atmosphere created by coach Danny Hall and assistant coaches Danny Borrell and James Ramsey.
“Since Day 1, the first time I came in contact with them, they were all about family, and the culture, and the culture of winning that it takes to play at Georgia Tech,” Sabathia said. “And once I started to get into conversations, not just about baseball, but about family, life, and things outside the white lines, I fell in love.”
Sabathia joins a recruiting class that is ranked sixth nationally by Perfect Game scouting service. Were the ranking to hold, it would be Hall’s third top-10 class in four years.
Sabathia also is positioned to join a team that has two sons of longtime major leaguers on this year’s roster – pitchers Dawson Brown (son of Tech great and six-time All-Star Kevin Brown) and Marquis Grissom Jr. (son of four-time Gold Glove winner Marquis Grissom).
