Georgia Tech has picked up a transfer to fill a need on its special teams in 2025.
Marshall Nichols, a punter who spent the past three seasons at Nevada-Las Vegas, is expected to join the Yellow Jackets for the 2025 season, according to 247Sports. Nichols (6-foot-2, 220 pounds) has one season of eligibility remaining.
A 2021 graduate of Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School in Sandy Springs, Nichols began his collegiate career at Mississippi State. He then transferred to UNLV and spent the 2022, 2023 and 2024 seasons at the school.
Nichols was a honorable-mention all-Mountain West this past season and had a 79-yard punt against Nevada. He also was on the Ray Guy Award preseason watch list and finished the season with 54 punts for an average of 44.31 yards. Nichols also was an honorable-mention all-MWC selection in 2023 after averaging 47.1 yards (which ranked sixth in the nation), and he handled all 59 UNLV punts during the 2022 season
Nichols, expected to fill the role of former Tech punter David Shanahan, joins running back Malachi Hosley (Penn, Northside-Columbus High School), defensive ends Brayden Manley (Mercer) and Ronald Triplette (Texas-San Antonion), long snapper Luke Whiting (Florida Atlantic), linebackers Melvin Jordan IV (Oregon State) and Cayden Spaulding (Tennessee Tech, Miller Grove HS), defensive tackle Matthew Alexander (Central Florida, Buford HS), tight ends Harry Lodge (Wake Forest) and J.T.
