By the calculations of ESPN’s Football Power Index, Georgia Tech’s loss on Saturday to Pittsburgh was costly for the prospects for the season.

The probability of the Yellow Jackets winning six games and qualifying for a bowl game fell from 53.4% a week ago to 25.9% this week. Likewise, the index also assigned Tech a 14.5% chance of winning the ACC Coastal Division before the Pitt game, but only .9% chance after it.

The new data falls in line with the projections before the season — 28.8% chance of winning six games and .8% chance of winning the division.

At 1-2 in the ACC with a tiebreaking loss to the Panthers, Tech would most likely need Pitt (1-0 in the ACC) to lose three conference games to have a shot at winning the Coastal.

The Panthers now have a 71.7% probability of winning the division, up from 42% a week ago.

With a record of 2-3, Tech is projected for a record of 4.8-7.3.

Tech plays at Duke on Saturday and is given a 67.3% probability of winning. The Jackets are favored by 3.5 points.
