With a crushing loss in their wake and an unusual challenge coming up, Georgia Tech players have sought to put the loss to Northern Illinois behind them and train their focus on Kennesaw State, their opponent this Saturday.
Linebacker Ayinde Eley said that in a meeting earlier in the week, coaches and players spoke their minds about the defeat to the Huskies.
“The message was, it is what it is, it’s not the result we wanted,” Eley said. “What has happened happened, but it’s only a loss if you don’t learn from it. That’s how we’re moving on. We just came out this week of practice with the mindset of be better today, be better than yesterday.”
Running back Jordan Mason, who became the 17th Tech player to reach 2,000 career rushing yards with his 96-yard game against the Huskies, said the focus is on doing what’s necessary to beat Kennesaw State.
“We’re just taking little steps at a time,” he said. “We’re just focusing on blocking, focusing on how we’re going to get the ball to the receivers a little bit more.”
Wide receiver Kyric McGowan said the focus is on two areas where the Jackets fell short against Northern Illinois – “execute better in the first half and execute better down the stretch in the crucial moments.”
