Former Buford and Central Florida defensive tackle Matthew Alexander intends to transfer to Georgia Tech for the 2025 season. Alexander announced the news Saturday on his Instagram page.
Alexander is a 6-foot-3, 295-pound junior who began his career at UCF in 2021. After redshirting that season, he played in 14 games in 2022 and totaled 10 tackles and then appeared in 13 games in 2023 making 16 stops — including three against Tech in the 2023 Gasparilla Bowl.
This past season Alexander made 35 stops (four for a loss) and was credited with three quarterback hurries. Alexander was graded as UCF’s second best tackler, according to Pro Football Focus, and sixth best run defender.
Alexander was a two-way player for Buford High School and made 36 tackles and three sacks as a senior in 2020.
Alexander joins Tennessee Tech linebacker Cayden Spaulding, tight ends Harry Lodge (Wake Forest) and J.T. Byrne (California), Florida International wide receivers Dean Patterson and Eric Rivers, South Carolina wide receiver Debron Gatling, North Carolina offensive lineman Andrew Rosinski, Alabama-Birmingham defensive back Kelvin Hill and Eastern Michigan defensive back Daiquan White as players who plan to transfer to Tech for the ‘25 season.
