Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliott had an in-depth assessment on Georgia Tech’s defense when asked about it at his Monday news conference.

Among his comments: “They’re playing hard. They’re deep on the defensive line. I think we’ve seen maybe eight guys that are getting in on the rotation. Forty-two (defensive end Jordan Domineck), per the (Pro Football Focus) stats, has one of the highest pressure rates in the country. He does a good job, plays really hard. Him and 95 (defensive tackle Ja’Quon Griffin) look like they’re the heart and soul of that defense.”

Linebacker Ayinde Eley “looks like a good player,” Elliott said. “I think he’s played every snap so far this season. I don’t think he’s come off the field.”

“I know (defensive coordinator Andrew) Thacker’s doing a great job. They’re bringing five (in the pass rush) just about 50% of the time, so they’re going to put some pressure on you. They’re going to try to stop the run and see can you throw the football. That’s kind of the situation last year. I think they did a good job, had a good plan to stop the run, and we were able to hit some big plays in the passing game.”

Georgia Tech's defense was unable to contain Clemson's offensive attack in historic 73-7 loss at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta.

Last year, Tech held Clemson running back Travis Etienne to 44 yards on 11 carries — only Notre Dame and Ohio State held him to fewer yards last season — but the Jackets lost 73-7. Tech has given up more points in a game only once, in 1894 to Auburn. Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw for 404 yards and five touchdown passes, both career highs.
