ATHENS — Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young has reached a plea deal with the Solicitor’s Office in Athens-Clarke County, according to the Athens-Clarke County State Court website.

Young’s lawyer, Kim Stephens, told Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald that the misdemeanor charge of simple battery was changed to disorderly conduct. A charge of misdemeanor assault on an unborn child was dismissed.

Young pleaded no contest to the disorderly conduct charge, per the report. Young’s court date previously had been set for Feb. 17, after he initially entered a not guilty plea two the two charges at a Dec. 10 arraignment.

Young received 12 months of probation, a $500 fine and must complete a family violence intervention program.

Young has been suspended indefinitely from the Georgia team since his arrest Oct. 8. He played in five games this season for Georgia, catching 11 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns.

Kirby Smart, in speaking to reporters before Georgia’s game against Notre Dame, provided an update on Young following an NCAA rule change the would grant Young an extra season of eligibility due to his time in junior college.

"Colbie and I have had those discussions," Smart said about Young possibly returning for 2025. “I think only time will tell on that. I’d rather keep those conversations kind of between he and I because he has a lot of things going on.”

Young was practicing with the team during its bowl prep, but he was not able to return to competition until his legal case played out. Now with the case resolved, Georgia has a decision to make regarding whether it would want to bring Young back for the 2025 season.

Georgia added two wide receivers via the transfer portal in Noah Thomas and Zacharaich Branch. The Bulldogs also signed five wide receivers as a part of the 2025 recruiting cycle. Georgia also returns Dillon Bell, London Humphreys and Nitro Tuggle at the position.

The Bulldogs led the country in drops last season, and will take any upgrade they can get at the wide receiver position.

The Bulldogs also will have a new quarterback on their team, with Carson Beck transferring to Miami. Young transferred in from Miami before the 2024 season.
