Georgia got some secondary help with the addition of safety Tykee Smith as a transfer from West Virginia.

Smith, 5-foot-10, 198 pounds, made the announcement on social media Sunday. Minutes after Smith posted his next destination, Georgia did as well.

The defensive back played at West Virginia for two seasons, where he earned Third Team All-America honors last season. As a sophomore last season, Smith had 61 tackles and two interceptions. During his two years with the Mountaineers, including 17 starts, he totaled 114 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, one sack, four interceptions and one forced fumble.

Perhaps key to Smith’s choosing Georgia is new defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae, who spent the past two seasons at West Virginia before joining Georgia. Smith announced his intention to enter the transfer portal last week.

Smith will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Georgia must rework its secondary after losing starting safety Richard LeCounte and cornerbacks Eric Stokes and Tyson Campbell.
