The final AP Top 25 college football poll for the 2024 season was released following Monday’s national championship.
The Georgia Bulldogs finished the year at No. 6 after Georgia’s season came to an end in the Sugar Bowl at the hands of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.
Ohio State came in at No. 1 following its 34-23 national championship game win over Notre Dame on Monday. The Fighting Irish were the No. 2-ranked team, followed by Oregon, Texas and Penn State.
Georgia began the season as the No. 1 team in the first AP poll but a September loss to Alabama marked the start to an uneven season.
The Bulldogs lost multiple games for the first time since the 2020 season, as Georgia also lost to Ole Miss. But wins over Texas, Tennessee and Clemson kept the Bulldogs in the College Football Playoff picture.
Georgia won the SEC for just the third time in Kirby Smart’s nine years at Georgia. The Bulldogs needed overtime to push past Texas for the SEC crown. Gunner Stockton stepped in at quarterback for an injured Carson Beck, who had led the Bulldogs for most of the season.
Beck has since announced his transfer to Miami. Georgia also had a number of star players elect to move on to the NFL, including outside linebacker Jalon Walker, running back Trevor Etienne and offensive lineman Tate Ratledge.
Heading into the 2025 season, expectations will remain high. The Bulldogs continue to recruit at a high level, signing the No. 3-ranked class for the 2025 recruiting cycle, according to ESPN. The Bulldogs also welcomed six newcomers via the transfer portal.
Georgia faced six teams that ended the season ranked in the AP Top 25. Georgia went 4-3 in games against those teams. The SEC finished with seven teams ranked in the final poll, the most of any conference.
Georgia opens the 2025 season against Marshall on Aug. 30. A date for Georgia’s spring game has not yet been announced.
