ATHENS — Carson Beck’s time in college football may not be finished after all. According to a report from Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong of On3, Beck has entered the transfer portal.
Beck previously declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, doing so before Georgia’s College Football Playoff game against Notre Dame. Beck was with the team in New Orleans.
Beck underwent UCL surgery after suffering an elbow injury against Texas in the SEC Championship game Dec. 7 that ended his season. His final play in a Georgia uniform came against the Longhorns, when he handed the ball off to Trevor Etienne for the winning touchdown.
Following the surgery, Beck is expected to begin throwing again this spring.
This move is not unprecedented, as Cam Ward did the same a season ago. Ward first declared for the NFL draft after his time at Washington State before ultimately ending up at Miami via the transfer portal. Ward is now expected to be a top pick in the coming NFL draft. Look for Miami, who has not yet found a replacement for Ward, to be the among schools competing to land Beck’s services.
Beck threw 28 touchdown passes to 12 interceptions this past season while leading Georgia to an SEC Championship game win. Beck was 24-3 as a starter in his career at Georgia.
“I think Carson should be remembered as a great player. I mean, he’s who got us to this point in our season,” Georgia offensive lineman Tate Ratledge said of Beck prior to the Notre Dame game. “So him getting hurt, I don’t think should have any effect on his legacy he’s left here. I mean, he’s brought us to two SEC championships. Some could say he won us one. But, I mean, he’s had a tremendous career here. And the guy who waited his turn, had the opportunity to go anywhere in the country and play, and decided to wait his turn here.”
Georgia started Gunner Stockton in the bowl game against Notre Dame. He threw for 234 yards and a touchdown in what was his first career start. He is set to return and is the favorite to be Georgia’s starting quarterback in 2025.
“It was a little bit of a roller coaster, just trying to ride it. But I thought I handled it pretty well,” Stockton said of his play against Notre Dame. “But just seeing my teammates, they helped me out a lot.”
The Bulldogs also have seen quarterback Jaden Rashada enter the transfer portal. With Beck and Rashada moving on, Georgia has Ryan Puglisi, Ryan Montgomery and Hezekiah Millender on the roster. Stockton is the only one of the four to throw a pass in his career, as Montgomery and Millender are 2025 signees.
